The Psychological Toolbox:

In order to highlight an issue or support people throughout periods of discovery, growth and healing, at times I may combine one or more tailored aspects to the specific needs of individual clients.

Counselling

Counselling generally refers to short-term consultation while psychotherapy typically refers to longer-term treatment. Counselling most often deals with current/recent issues that are easily resolved. In other words counselling deals practically with immediate issues and outcomes.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapies are about how you think and live with yourself right now. It makes a distinction between what you think about and how you do the thinking; discovering patterns in the meanings of what you're doing. It helps a person look at long-standing attitudes, thoughts and behaviours that have impacted the quality of their lives. Psychotherapy empowers individuals by freeing them from the grip of unhelpful triggers or impulses via increased self-awareness.

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy has been practised is one form or another for thousands of years. It is successfully used today to treat things like PTSD, IBS, pain, anxiety, smoking cessation, eating disorders and much more. Clinical hypnosis isn't what you see on television or stage. It's never used to make people fall asleep or behave in a ridiculous manner. The experience of this trance-like state is similar to when you daydream or meditate. You will experience a heightened state of concentration where your mind eliminates distractions allowing you to become more open to helpful suggestions.

Trauma & PTSD

One of the most important aspects of getting help for PTSD is facing memories of the trauma rather than pushing them away. Avoiding thoughts of trauma can stop us recovering. It makes it hard to come to terms with what has happened, and can affect significant parts of our lives.

•  Confronting trauma in a safe place
•  Learning to modify responses to traumatic memories
•  Finding ways to face traumatic memories and situations being avoided
